Transforming Social Work Through Mentorship (TSTM) Program

The mission of our program is to guide and engage social work students to become professional social workers. Mentors will be able to inspire and lead by example through ethical, transformative collaboration with mentees. There will also be an emphasis on personal growth, serving others and respecting the dignity and worth of a person. The goal of the alumni mentoring program is to retain students in the social work program.

A mentor facilitates personal and professional growth in an individual by sharing the knowledge and insights they have learned through the years.

A mentee is an achiever groomed for advancement by being provided opportunities to excel beyond the limits of his or her personal and educational goals. – Madison Hill, M.S.W., LCSW-A

• Ensure that mentees have the skills and tools they need to make sound career and educational decisions
• To assist the mentee in establishing and accomplishing short-term and long-term goals, both personally and professionally
• Contribute to the building of communities, character development and professional growth of mentees

• Engage in one of the following communication activities at least once a week: face-to-face meeting, virtual meeting or a phone call activity
• Mentors provide guidance, advice, feedback and support to the mentee
• Meet with your mentor to develop a mentoring agreement
• Maintain regular contact with the mentee

• Establish, with your mentor, your explicit goals and objectives for the relationship
• Work with your mentor to develop a mentoring agreement
• Maintain regular contact with the mentor
