Overview
The Eagle Commuter Assistance Program (E-CAP) is NCCU’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program aimed at reducing solo-passenger car trips in the Triangle. E-CAP provides commuter benefits to all employees and to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
The City of Durham and the Triangle region are experiencing unprecedented growth. This growth brings with it a host of exciting opportunities—new residents and more businesses—but it also brings increased traffic congestion and associated consequences, such as poor air quality. TDM is the answer to this growth, as it works to incorporate multi-modal transportation as a solution to the solo-passenger commute, utilizing alternative forms like public transit, carpools and vanpools, biking, walking, and flexible scheduling or telecommuting.
As a cornerstone to the region, NCCU has the opportunity to model successful TDM planning and to incorporate more modes of transit for commuters. This will add to regional growth while managing congestion in a sustainable way. At the same time, this will help NCCU plan for continued growth by preserving the commodity that is often overlooked—space.
