Carpools and Vanpools

Share the Ride NC is a statewide website that was created to help form carpools and vanpools. It is provided free of charge in support of the effort to improve air quality and to reduce commuter congestion. NC Central has partnered with GoTriangle, a partnership of public transit agencies and organizations funded to promote commuter benefits in the Triangle region.

Students, faculty, and staff can register with www.sharetheridenc.org to find a rideshare partner, utilize the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program, and check into the GoPerks trip tracking calendar.

Registration with Share the Ride NC gives you instant access to vanpools that already exist and are looking for new riders.  NC Central has also partnered with GoTriangle and Enterprise to form new vanpools for commuters with unmet needs.  More information on starting a new vanpool can be found at www.gotriangle.org/rideshare.

In many cases, the driver of the vanpool rides for free and receives free monthly personal miles on the vehicle.

Registration with Share the Ride NC gives you instant access to find carpools that exist on campus or to match up with carpools taking a similar route.  At NC Central, on-campus carpools are defined as two or more employees riding together to campus.

NC Central is pleased to be a registered employer with GoTriangle and to offer all of its employees access to the Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program. This program is free to all faculty and staff members of NC Central.

Below are the conditions of the program:

• Commuters must register with Share the Ride NC before using the service; registration is free.
• Commuters are granted use of the ERH program two times in a 30-day period and up to six annually.
• Commuters must live or work in one of the following counties: Durham, Orange or Wake.
• Conditions of using the ERH program are limited to unexpected personal family emergency, unexpected illness, or unscheduled overtime.
• Commuter must have used the bus, a carpool, or a vanpool or have biked or walked to work on the day she or he requests the service.
• Commuter must renew her or his account annually to maintain ERH membership; this can be done through www.sharetheridenc.org or by contacting GoTriangle at 919-485-7433.
