School of Education Strategic Plan and Reports
The School of Education is guided by an intentionally derived strategic plan that centers on data-informed practices. Reporting occurs systematically and regularly to ensure that innovation occurs at all levels of the academic unit.
Strategic Plan
Strategic planning goals and strategies for the School of Education (SOE) align with and support the goals and strategies identified by the North Carolina Central University 2019–2024 Strategic Plan. The SOE’s goals and strategies are defined here in compliance with the four goals established by the University. In addition, the goals and objectives of Academic Affairs are inherent and evidenced throughout this strategic plan. Specifically, the SOE’s Strategic Plan aligns with the following goals of the 2016–2021 Academic Affairs Strategic Plan:

Antecedents will be required to successfully implement the strategies defined below. The strategies will likely produce insignificant results if antecedents are not in place. The following actions, strategies, objectives and goals are structured to support the goals of Academic Affairs and to ensure the University Strategic Plan is realized.

In line with the Eagle Promise, the SOE will ensure that diverse students have equitable access to the educational tools and resources that will lead to their success as professionals.
Objective 1: Enhance the delivery of academic advising for undergraduate and graduate students at all points of matriculation, from admission to graduation.
Objective 2: Strengthen communication with students at the program, department and unit levels.
Objective 3: Foster a sense of community among students and stakeholders within and between academic programs that build cultural and social capital.
Objective 4: Increase the pass rate for the Praxis Core test by 10% each year and increase the pass rate on the Praxis II (Content Areas) and Pearson Assessment (Reading) by 5% annually over the next five years.
Objective 5: Increase the percentage of undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented backgrounds pursuing education degrees by at least 5% per year, during a five-year period.
The School of Education will establish itself as a leading producer of educational innovation and research that impacts PK-16 schools and the community.
Objective 1: Promote faculty and student engagement in the development of innovation and research that advances the mission of the school.
Objective 2: Advance innovation and research that impacts PK-16 schools and the community.
The SOE will build firm partnerships with educational stakeholders.
Objective 1: Strengthen existing partnerships with local and regional public schools.
Objective 2: Increase the quantity and quality of partnerships and collaborative efforts with educational stakeholders at the state, national, and international levels by 10% annually.
The SOE will maintain existent and develop new infrastructures that strengthen its reputation and advance its mission.
Objective 1: Enhance operational systems to increase productivity and efficiency.
Objective 2: Engage in innovative educational and administrative practices that lead to sustainability.

Taskstream
The School of Education (SOE) uses Taskstream as an assessment system to evaluate teacher candidates. Taskstream allows the viewing students’ work alongside the rubric, move fluidly from assessing one artifact to the next, stay organized, and track students’ progress of various SOE-affiliated program. Students use Taskstream to
- Apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program (undergraduates or SOE enrolled Master’s students)
- Apply for student teaching
- Upload documentation for programs of study
- Complete the Educative Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA)
- Complete programs of study
Students needing a Taskstream account should reach out to their advisor (SOE majors) or program coordinator (non-SOE majors).
EPP Performance Reports
The School of Education oversees the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) at North Carolina Central University. Performance reports are written annually and submitted to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. These reports include EPP initiatives and characteristics of students.
Educator Preparation Report Card
The Undergraduate and Graduate Report Cards offer overviews of student data including educator effectiveness and graduate satisfaction as well as employment data. These report cards are published by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Eagle Facts in Brief
The Eagle Facts in Brief are published annually by North Carolina Central University. These briefs offer valuable data on student enrollment and student success including retention and graduation rates. Faculty and staff demographics as well as tuition and fee data are provided.
