BRITE Visits
Visits to BRITE
We welcome middle and high school students to visit BRITE to learn more about BRITE, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and NCCU.
To date, we have hosted more than 15,000 students at BRITE.
BRITE visits are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the academic year. During your visit, you will go on a tour of the BRITE research labs and have the opportunity to meet and talk with BRITE scientists. Students also participate in hands-on STEM laboratory activities with our professional-grade equipment and engage in discussions about college and career readiness.
The BRITE STEM laboratory activities that are offered include:

Students learn how to use micropipettes, one of the most commonly used tools of scientists. They perform a hands-on experiment that yields colors within the visible spectrum when their results are accurate and precise.
Students learn about DNA and how to extract it from strawberries. They perform techniques to isolate DNA using micropipettes.
Students learn how chromatography can be used to separate complex mixtures of biomolecules and to isolate proteins. Students purify the green fluorescent protein (GFP) using this technique.
Students learn how electrophoresis can be used to separate biomolecules that vary in size, such as proteins or DNA. Students use micropipettes to prepare samples and then analyze the results upon completion of this experiment.
