Office of Faculty Professional Development

The Office of Faculty Professional Development is a Title III Activity and is supported by Title III-B funding. The mission of the Office of Faculty Professional Development (OFPD) is to encourage excellence in teaching through programs for course development, redesign and improvement, implementation of research-based instructional strategies, and support services to faculty that encourage instructional development and efficiency in the workplace.

Our Goal

The overarching goal of the Activity is to provide tools and resources for faculty to help students to crystallize academic and social interests, focus on career goals, discover academic strengths and needs, and persist to graduation. The main purpose of the OFPD is to improve instruction quality for undergraduate and graduate student success.

OFPD 2024–2025 Objectives

The Title III objectives for the 2024–2025 academic year are as follows:

  1. To prepare Mathematics faculty members to assess student learning outcomes in GEC MATH 1080, 1100, 1120, and 1200 courses to inform effective instructional practices that facilitate learning and mastery of Mathematics content during the 2024–2025 academic year.
  2. To provide a minimum of two (2) personalized professional development activities to at least eight (8) academic departments to build capacity in faculty use of effective instructional practices that impact student academic performance and achievement during the 2024–2025 academic year.

The OFPD 2024–2025 objectives align with the following NCCU Strategic Plan 2019–2024 objective:

  • NCCU 4.2. Increase access to opportunities for professional development to ensure faculty and staff success.

Development Opportunities

The Office of Faculty Professional Development staff is pleased to offer a series of face-to-face sessions and webinars to prepare faculty to teach courses in a variety of learning environments. For each monthly online seminar selected for viewing, there will be a follow-up discussion session for NCCU faculty members to attend, hosted by the Office of Faculty Professional Development. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for participating. Also, additional conference opportunities will be shared.
