Community Partners

Welcome! The Office for Community Engagement and Service (OCES) partners with community organizations across the Durham, Wake and Orange Counties to create robust opportunities for NCCU students to respond to the needs of our local community within the Triangle and surrounding areas.

NCCU OCES partners with various groups and agencies on and off campus. Every year, community-based organizations such as nonprofits, public agencies from multiple industries and service-learning sites offer unique opportunities to support NCCU’s motto, “Truth and Service,” to support the growth and development of our students on and beyond the nest.

Schedule an initial meeting with a staff member from our office to discuss the partnership!

1. Schedule a meeting with the OCES assistant director of Community Partnerships, Ms. Ruby Messick, at [email protected] for potential community partnership requests.
2. Review and sign the OCES Community Partnership Agreement.
3. Register for the NCCU Get Connected virtual training. All community partners must attend the department of OCES orientation to list service opportunities.
4. Approved community partners must attend the OCES Community Partner orientation.

NCCU’s Office of Community Engagement and Service supports students in meeting their community engagement academic requirements. We encourage philanthropy leaders of the organization to coordinate service projects with a non-profit organization registered with OCES.

All service projects must follow CDC, state, and University guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. Service projects must have direct or virtual service contact with an organization on or off campus. The activity must result in a direct or virtual encounter and a benefit to the community organization.
2. Project proposals must be submitted to OCES three (3) weeks in advance. OCES staff will contact the organization two weeks before the event to indicate approval and service credits that can be granted for the event.

When students collect donations, they should also plan an activity with the organization for which contributions are being collected.

To apply, students should submit a proposal.
