GCSTOP: Expanding Novel Harm Reduction and Brief Interventions to Additional Vulnerable Populations in Guilford County

Building on a longstanding partnership between Guilford County and UNC Greensboro, this project will develop and implement an intervention for minoritized communities in high-priority areas that will increase awareness and decrease later overdoses through psychoeducation, peer counseling and safer use supplies such as fentanyl strips and naloxone training.

Executive Director, Guilford County Solution to the Opioid Problem (GSTOP)

Dr. Melissa Floyd-Pickard is a professor in the School of Health and Human Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC Greensboro) and the principal investigator for GCSTOP, a partnership between Guilford County Emergency Services and UNC Greensboro focused on addressing the county’s increasing incidence of opioid overdoses and related deaths. Her research interests include practice with people who have serious mental illness, issues in family substance abuse recovery, innovative alternatives to involuntary treatment and professional dissonance in social work practice.
