Trina McCarter Named Senior Academic Advisor

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has appointed Trina McCarter ’19, ’21, as senior academic advisor, effective Jan. 3, 2025. She reports to Ivy Baker, director of student advising, and leads initiatives that support students in their academic and professional growth. Her role focuses on helping students reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond.

McCarter has been involved with NCCU’s School of Business since 2019, beginning as an undergraduate student intern with Deborah Brame in the Office of Student Professional Development. She later served as a graduate assistant in the same office before transitioning to teaching Business Orientation and Career Readiness after Brame’s retirement in August 2022. She continues to teach Career Readiness today.

With experience as a student, staff member and faculty member, McCarter brings valuable insight and mentorship to her students. Her warm and approachable demeanor makes her a trusted advisor, dedicated to inspiring and guiding students toward success.

McCarter holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management, and an MBA, both from NCCU. In addition to her advising role, she serves as an adjunct professor in business administration, teaching professional development
