Kwame Molden, co-founder and president of Springbreak (SPGBK) Watches, a designer watch brand known for stylish, impactful and affordable timepieces, will keynote North Carolina Central University’s (NCCU) 144th Commencement Exercises on Friday, Dec. 13.
SPGBK draws inspiration from its community and from Molden’s own Fayetteville, North Carolina upbringing. Driven by his passion for education, Kwame has led SPGBK to remarkable growth, landing major retail distribution in over 350 stores, including Nordstrom, Macy’s, Belk and recently, Nordstrom Rack. In 2023, SPGBK was named one of Oprah’s Favorite Things and has been featured by “Good Morning America,” Oprah Daily, The New York Times, AfroTech and more.
Molden’s commitment to giving back led him to donate more than $35,000 worth of watches to teachers and staff nationwide, including at his alma mater, E.E. Smith High School, as part of SPGBK’s Annual School Giving program.
With more than decade of experience as a senior process engineer, Molden has led operational improvements for Fortune 100 companies in finance and retail, designing technology solutions and managing projects in the Charlotte area. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from North Carolina A&T State University in 2009 and an MBA in marketing from UNC Charlotte in 2012.
NCCU’s commencement begins with the graduate and professional ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by the baccalaureate ceremony at 2 p.m. in McDougald-McLendon Arena, 700 E. Lawson St. Both ceremonies will stream live on the university’s website and YouTube channel.
To ensure safety, NCCU will conduct security checks and enforce a clear bag policy at both ceremonies. Permissible bags must be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC, no larger than 12" x 12" x 6". Exceptions apply for medical and baby needs; small clutches under 4.5" x 6.5" x 1" are also permitted.
