North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has received a $600,000 investment from LC Industries (LCI) to enhance the university’s Office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS). In recognition of this significant contribution, the office will now bear the name LCI Student Accessibility Center. LCI is a Durham-based company and one of the nation’s largest employers of individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
This latest gift builds on LCI’s longstanding partnership with NCCU, which began with a $400,000 endowed scholarship in 2004 to support students utilizing SAS. With this new investment, LCI’s total financial commitment to NCCU has reached $1 million, strengthening its legacy of increasing educational pathways and removing barriers for students with learning differences, disabilities or medical conditions.
The funding will allow NCCU to expand services, invest in assistive technologies, and further promote a welcoming learning environment.
Patrick Lindsey, President and CEO of LCI, stated, “NCCU is home to some of the brightest and most determined scholars, and LCI is proud to invest in their success. This partnership reflects our commitment to expanding accessibility and preparing future leaders.”
“This generous investment reaffirms our shared dedication to accessibility and student success,” said Dekendrick Murray, executive director for student access and success. “Thanks to LCI, Patrick Lindsey and the LC Industries Foundation, we can continue breaking down barriers and empowering scholars with disabilities.”
Angela Alvarado Coleman, Ed.D., vice chancellor for student affairs, added, “This transformative investment ensures students have the tools they need to thrive. We are deeply grateful for LCI’s dedication to empowering our scholars and enhancing accessibility on our campus.”
