NCCU School of Law Students Win ABA National Client Counseling Competition

North Carolina Central University School of Law is proud to announce third-year law students, Cortnei Cooks and Maëva Hassani, emerged as winners of the prestigious 2025 American Bar Association (ABA) National Client Counseling Competition. The competition was held on March 16, 2025, at the University of Missouri School of Law. 
 
Competing against 89 teams from 47 law schools nationwide, Cooks and Hassani demonstrated exemplary capabilities in employment law throughout the competition. Their journey to victory included a second-place finish at the ABA Regional Competition held at Drexel University School of Law in February 2025, which qualified them for the national finals. 
 
The ABA National Client Counseling Competition emphasizes critical legal skills such as interviewing, counselling and supporting clients. The team was guided by Associate Professor Lisa Kamarchik ’06, who served as their coach and advisor.
