Posted August 17, 2023, 12:31PM

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law will join the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to present in-person Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings and a Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) proceeding.

The live event will be held on the NCCU campus Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, in the Moot Courtroom.

During the event, practitioners and students will be privy to a fireside chat with USPTO Deputy Director Brent where he will address questions, discuss tips for advocacy before the administrative tribunals, and provide his thoughts on leading the USPTO.

Additionally, the PTAB and TTAB judges will provide educational sessions where they will share information about the structure and format of PTAB trial and appeal proceeding and TTAB opposition proceedings. A non-USPTO sponsored networking reception will follow the proceedings and educational sessions. Patent and trademark attorneys who appear before the PTAB and/or TTAB, and those who are interested in learning about IP law or practicing before these administrative tribunals, should attend.

Space is limited, so registration for this free program is encouraged. Applications will be available for four general continuing legal education (CLE) credits (North Carolina).
