North Carolina Central University’s Ultimate Homecoming Experience returns to strengthen Eagle Pride and commemorate the institution’s 110th anniversary with a new virtual sensation for alumni, students, faculty and staff.
This year, the Eagle community can enjoy a selection of Homecoming festivities from the comfort and safety of their home.
Eagles across the world will celebrate Homecoming virtually on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020,with opportunities for the NCCU family to relive past reunion and homecoming memories and celebrate the present. NCCU chancellor, Dr. Johnson O. Akinleye will open the celebration, and there will be opportunities to tour the sloping hills and verdant green, join virtual tailgates, celebrate special milestones, march to the beat of the NCCU Sound Machine, watch some Eagle football, and end the day listening to great music from the Library Bowl. As part of the celebration, the university will commemorate its 110th year of fulfilling founder Dr. James E. Shepard’s vision of developing students of character through rigorous academic training and a commitment to public service.
This year’s lineup of popular traditions with a virtual flair includes:
The 73rd Founder’s Day Convocation will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2020. The virtual event will be broadcast on NCCU’s YouTube and Facebook channels, and a link will be posted on NCCU’s website. The event recognizes the life and contributions of NCCU founder Dr. James E. Shepard. Following the convocation, a wreath-laying ceremony will also air as part of the celebration.
The legendary Marching Sound Machine will perform an old school musical tribute on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m., on the NCCU Life YouTube Channel.
New for this year’s Homecoming festivities will be the installation of student-leaders for the 2020-2021 academic year by the Student Government Association on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m., which will featured on the NCCU Life YouTube Channel and Facebook page.
On Friday, Nov. 6, NCCU will crown the 2019-2020 Royal Court during the Miss and Mister NCCU Coronation at 6 p.m. on the NCCU Life YouTube Channel and Facebook page.
The story of “Eagle Pride, Amplified” will also complement the celebration.
A three-part docuseries with former SGA presidents, former Miss and Mister NCCU and notable past student-leaders will share their stories on how NCCU impacted their success. Watch daily Oct. 27-29, 2020 at 7 p.m., on the NCCU Life YouTube Channel.
In addition to the Virtual Homecoming Experience, NCCU alumni and friends will have an opportunity to show their Eagle Pride by supporting the “We Are 110” giving campaign that will run from Oct. 19-31.
