North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has been recognized as a Voter Friendly Campus by the Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. The national recognition highlights colleges and universities that actively empower students to register, engage and participate in elections.
The initiative evaluates institutions on their efforts to remove barriers to voting, implement voter education programs, and mobilize students to participate in the electoral process. NCCU was recognized for its comprehensive 2024 plan to register, educate, and turn out student voters.
Throughout 2024, NCCU reinforced its commitment to civic engagement through student-focuses initiatives. Rally and Vote encouraged voter registration with a celebratory atmosphere, including a food truck. National Voter Registration Day leveraged social media to highlight key deadlines, while Civic in Color featured Divine Nine Greek organizations discussing the power of civic involvement. Civic Feud engaged students in a game-show-style policy discussion, and Votecoming brought energy to early voting as the Sound Machine Marching Band led students to the on-campus polling place.
NCCU joins a select group of institutions nationwide honored for promoting student voter engagement, collectively serving more than four million students. This year’s designees also include 13 historically Black colleges and universities and 47 community colleges.
