1,437 students to participate in ‘Move-In Day’ experience

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will welcome approximately 1,437 students to its residential halls on ‘Move-in Day,’ beginning Thursday, Aug. 10.  The new residents include 1,339 students who join the class of 2027 and 98 transfers and second-degree students for the 2023-2024 academic year.

“North Carolina Central University is thrilled for the newest class of scholars to experience ‘The Eagle Promise,’” said NCCU Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye Ph.D. “These students who have chosen to further their studies at NCCU can trust that this new chapter in their lives will deliver invaluable tools that will help them champion their futures and result in on-time graduation, local and global opportunities, leadership skills and employment in their field of choice, or entrance into graduate or professional school.”

The new undergraduate Eagles boast a healthy academic profile with average GPA scores of 985.7 and ACT scores of 17.54. The top five intended academic majors chosen by incoming students include business administration, pre-nursing, criminal justice, psychology and biology. In NCCU’s graduate and professional schools, top intended programs of study include law, social work, communication disorder, business administration, mental health counseling and library science.

Final university enrollment data for the 2023-2024 academic year will be available in September 2023.

As part of the university’s tradition on welcoming new scholars, all incoming students are invited to participate in Eagle Mania, a series of events organized by NCCU’s divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. Through a mixture of academic and social programs, Eagle Mania helps students becoming more familiar with NCCU and the City of Durham. New student induction and pinning ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, in McDougald-McLendon Arena. Alumni and members of the NCCU community will present new students with their class pins as a reminder of the university’s heritage and the rich legacy they join.
