North Carolina Central University’s (NCCU) School of Business has partnered with Google LLC to host the Google Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) for students with a passion for technology and dreams of becoming a computer scientist.
The program, which takes place on the campus of NCCU and runs from Sunday, July 8 through Saturday, July 28, 2018, will provide 40 participants from several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) an opportunity to learn computer science fundamentals under the direction of Google engineers.
“NCCU is excited to host the Google Computer Science Summer Institute,” said Dr. Donna Grant, program coordinator of NCCU’s Computer Science and Business degree and School of Business associate professor. “This is a great opportunity for students to achieve a competitive edge in computer science.”
Students will attend the three-week residential program at no charge, thanks to funding from Google, and gain a kick-start into undergraduate studies in computer science along with opportunities for professional development, including resume building and design thinking.
During the immersive technology experience, participants will receive intensive, interactive, hands-on learning that supports the study of computer science, software engineering and other closely related subjects.
Students will also design and develop applications with fellow participants to showcase during special presentations to Google employees from the local office.
