Message from the Chancellor: Important COVID-19 Updates

Posted March 01, 2022, 6:04PM

We continue to make great progress mitigating COVID-19 risk as key metrics continue to be favorable in Durham County, across North Carolina and around the country. Following new recommendations regarding COVID-19 community levels and masking, the UNC System has provided new guidance to system institutions.

Beginning March 7, 2022, at 12:01 a.m., masks will no longer be required indoors in Durham County. NCCU will follow the lead of public health experts and discontinue the requirement for masks indoors on campus on March 7, 2022 with a few exceptions: health care settings and public transportation including campus shuttles. Those who would like to continue wearing a face covering are encouraged to do so. While the number of COVID-19 cases has dropped rapidly, health officials say face coverings and vaccinations are an effective way to further reduce the likelihood of becoming infected.

As a reminder, effective March 1, 2022, NCCU will open for externally sponsored events. Please view the most current information regarding COVID-19 requirements and space rental here: https://www.nccu.edu/covid-19/external-sponsored-events.

Finally, please take a moment to review important campus testing information that was issued today via [email protected]

Thank you for your work in Protecting the Nest as we are seeing the results of our adherence to health and safety protocols. Visit www.nccu.edu/covid-19 for updates.

In Truth and Service,

Johnson O. Akinleye, Chancellor
