Posted April 13, 2022, 4:24PM

Dear NCCU Community:

I am saddened to share that we have lost a treasured North Carolina Central University student. Ms. Dominique McKeithan, a sophomore social work major from Sanford, N.C., passed away unexpectedly in a tragic car accident on April 10, 2022.

One of  Dominque’s closest friends stated the following: “Domonique was the kindest and sweetest person I know. She was very family oriented. If she wasn’t at work, she was with family or friends. She was so giving and always went the extra mile to help others.”

The Counseling Center is available for students who would like to speak with a counselor and can be reached at 919-530-7646. The Office of Spiritual Development and Dialogue also has staff on duty for consultation at 919-602-6967.

Details regarding a campus vigil are forthcoming. Funeral arrangements for Dominique will be shared with the university community when available.

Please keep her family, classmates, professors and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

In Truth and Service,

Johnson O. Akinleye, Ph.D.

Chancellor
