North Carolina Central University will transition to Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy effective through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The university is closely monitoring conditions on and around campus, as well as potential impacts from Duke Energy and other service providers. If necessary, Condition 2 may be extended.

McNair Scholars to Host Leadership, Research Summit: ‘The Power of Purpose: Leading With Intent and Impact’

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will hold its annual Leadership and Research Summit on Feb. 7-8, 2025, at the NCCU Student Center, 500 Nelson St. The event’s theme, “The Power of Purpose: Leading With Intent and Impact,” will engage attendees through keynote presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops.

The two-day summit will feature prominent speakers, including:

  • Dr. Keita Joy, a life coach and leadership expert, who will share strategies for achieving personal and professional success through her work at Success Uncensored Coaching.
  • Dr. Jarrod Benjamin, delivering the opening keynote, will discuss purpose-driven leadership initiatives and practical strategies for effective leadership.
  • Akilah Davis, a race and culture reporter with ABC11 North Carolina, will offer her perspectives on media, culture, and leadership.
  • Dr. Breona Hayes, Dr. Javan Reed, Dr. Tasha A. Carson, and Dr. Shaquille Dillon, recognized scholars and emerging leaders in higher education, will highlight the importance of leadership in academic settings.
  • Ginelle Hines, a licensed clinical mental health counselor, will lead a session on mental wellness and its role in effective leadership, titled “Empowerment Through Awareness: Mental Health in Leadership.”

In addition to keynote addresses, the summit will include collaborative workshops, networking sessions, and presentations celebrating trailblazers in education, such as Dr. Siobahn Day Grady, who in 2018 became the first woman to earn a doctorate in computer science from North Carolina A&T State University.
