The university’s online bachelor’s in business administration program stood out, ranking No. 6 overall in North Carolina, No. 2 among state HBCUs and No. 3 among HBCUs nationwide. For veterans, NCCU’s online bachelor’s programs secured the No. 5 spot in North Carolina, No. 2 among state HBCUs, and No. 2 among HBCUs nationally.

The rankings were based on key factors including student engagement, faculty credentials and technology resources.

"This recognition highlights NCCU’s promise to provide high-quality, accessible online education that meets the needs of the modern student,” said Kimberly Phifer-McGhee, Ed.D., associate vice chancellor for extended studies and student support. "Our faculty and staff ensure that all students—whether they’re starting college for the first time, working while studying or serving in the military—have the tools and support they need for their purpose to take flight.”

NCCU’s online enrollment grew by 24% this academic year, with 16% of students earning their degrees remotely. Programs range from criminal justice to nursing, many of which are supported by Project Kitty Hawk, an ed-tech initiative that helps the university better serve adult learners. Enrollment among adult learners and military-affiliated students increased by 13% and 36%, respectively.

The online Bachelor of Business Administration program focuses on communication, problem-solving, ethics, leadership and globalization, preparing students to succeed in competitive industries. The School of Business building, opened in 2024, includes the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development and the Peggy Ward Financial Education Center, offering resources for students and the community.
