Seven students at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will find their wallets a big fatter thanks to scholarships from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

The Office of HBCU Outreach at NCDOT has awarded six students a HBCU/MSI Transportation Scholarship for $2,500. Those students are:

  • Myla Crawford
  • William Taylor
  • Tamira Campbell
  • Layson Brown
  • Saniyah West
  • Ashley Bush

In addition, NCDOT awarded student Bushra Orpa a $700 scholarship.

Students were required to fill out an application and create a video about themselves, said Jarrett Eason, Ed.D., HBCU outreach coordinator at NCDOT.

The scholarship program aims to foster diverse transportation professionals by awarding scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in transportation-related fields, according to a letter announcing the scholarship awards.
