North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has appointed Alyn Goodson, '11 (JD), executive vice chancellor, effective July 15, 2024.

Goodson, an alumnus of NCCU, will report to Chancellor Karrie G. Dixon and will serve as a key member of the chancellor’s cabinet, providing strategic oversight, leadership and guidance on a wide array of campus administrative and operational functions.

Goodson joins NCCU from Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), where he served as vice chancellor, chief of staff and general counsel. In this role, he is the chancellor’s liaison for university stakeholders, state and local officials, legislators and the University of North Carolina System Office. He partners with the chancellor to secure funding for academic programs, capital projects and campus operations, serves on the chancellor’s Executive Cabinet and manages the implementation of the university’s strategic and campus master plans.

Goodson joined ECSU in 2012 as an assistant general counsel and was successively appointed general counsel then vice chancellor of operations and general counsel before his current appointment. Goodson has led ECSU through several high-profile matters, including campus safety, facility management and cyber security incidents. Working with Chancellor Dixon, they have secured hundreds of millions of dollars of investment for the university. Goodson has managed over $200 million dollars in capital projects, implemented new technology to improve campus operations, and began the process that secured accreditation by CALEA for campus police. He has experience with responses to external investigations and crisis communications. Goodson also serves as ECSU’s ethics liaison and enterprise risk manager.

“I am excited to return to an institution that has profoundly shaped my career,” said Goodson. “I eagerly anticipate collaborating with the broader NCCU community to further the goals of this outstanding institution.”

Goodson earned a Juris Doctor with honors from North Carolina Central University in 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from North Carolina State University and an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University.
