North Carolina Central University will restore full operations beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, and will operate under Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy until 12 p.m. Full operations will be restored at 12 p.m. and classes will begin at 12 p.m. on Feb. 21.

When traveling on campus, please continue to use extreme caution on all roadways and walkways due to freezing temperatures and potential black ice. Be aware that ice may unexpectedly fall from the top and edges of buildings as temperatures slowly rise over the next 24-48 hours.

For additional updates, please monitor the NCCU website (www.nccu.edu), the university’s official social media accounts (FacebookTwitterInstagram) and email, or call the weather telephone hotline at 919-530-7220.

Faculty and staff, please reference the correspondence distributed by the Department of Human Resources regarding the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy. As a reminder, here are the Adverse Weather Condition Levels:

  • Condition 1 (Reduced Operations): The institution remains largely open but may have some reduced operations due to limited staffing. Non-mandatory employees must use their discretion in determining their safety to report to or remain at work.
  • Condition 2 (Suspended Operations): The institution remains open on a limited basis and has suspended all but mandatory operations. Non-mandatory employees must not report to or remain at work.
  • Condition 3 (Closure): Due to severe conditions, the institution is closed for business. Non-mandatory employees must not report to or remain at work.

Feb. 20, 6:30 p.m.

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) continues to closely monitor the National Weather Service and its briefings related to the snowfall for the Triangle area, beginning today, Feb. 20. NCCU will operate under Condition 2 beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, until 12 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 21. Classes are cancelled through 12 p.m., on Feb. 21.

Under Condition 2:

“Condition 2 is appropriate when safety risks or logistical challenges are more severe and there is a substantial interest to have a relatively limited number of individuals travel to or remain at the university. In the event of severe weather events, University officials should consider the totality of factors including National Weather Service alerts and warnings, reported road conditions for major thoroughfares, law enforcement directives, the status of area mass transit, the status of campus utility systems, and executive orders from local government heads or the Governor. The Governor’s declaration of a “State of Emergency” or an advisory by the State Highway Patrol to avoid travel does not automatically necessitate suspended operations, but may be an important consideration in reaching a decision on the University’s operational status.”

Should campus operations change, we will communicate all updates via the Rave system (email, text and phone call), weather telephone hotline (919-530-7220), social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and on the NCCU website.

Faculty and staff should reference the correspondence distributed by the Department of Human Resources regarding the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.

If you see anything hazardous, please report it immediately to the NCCU Police Department at 919-530-6106.
