University Services for Law Students

Student Health and Counseling Services

At the North Carolina Central University Student Health and Counseling Center, individual health and wellness needs are attended to in a confidential and caring manner, both on-site and through referral. Primary care services are provided by physician specialists in family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry. They are complemented by other professional, technical and support staff, including a fully licensed on-site laboratory and pharmacy. Counseling is also an integral part of the services offered by Student Health and Counseling Services.

Sickness and Accident Insurance

The University sponsors a medical insurance plan through a commercial carrier. Students who opt to waive the University medical insurance plan must complete an insurance waiver and show proof of other active medical insurance coverage. Students who opt to waive the student insurance medical plan can still receive services at Student Health and Counseling Services. Any charges incurred will be charged to the student’s account. Counseling Center

The Counseling Center strives to support the mission of the University by providing free and confidential assistance to all students in defining and accomplishing their personal and academic goals. The Center offers a comprehensive program of personal and group counseling and effective workshops/presentations. Appointments are encouraged, but emergency services are also available. The Counseling Center is located on the second floor of the Student Health Building.

Hours of Operation

Student health services are provided Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are highly encouraged; however, some services are also provided on a walk-in basis. At other times, University Police should be contacted at 919-530-6106 for urgent health care needs. The Student Health Building is located on Cafeteria Drive, between Pearson Cafeteria and McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium.

Most law students live off campus. However, limited housing is available on campus for single law students through the Department of Residential Life. There is no housing for married law students on campus. For more information, visit Residential Life.

On-campus students are offered a modified meal plan in Pearson Cafeteria. Students living off campus may purchase meals on a cash basis/point basis. The University has several other vending operations that offer quick snacks, sandwiches, and beverages throughout the campus.

The North Carolina Central University Bookstore, located on the ground floor of the Latham Parking Deck, is the official source for the purchase of textbooks, school supplies, and emblematic school paraphernalia. The primary role of the University Police Department is to provide a safe working and learning environment for students, faculty and staff. The department operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and provides a variety of services including information and safety consultation, lost and found, escort service after dark, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, property identification, and vehicle registration. All vehicles on campus must be registered and school-year parking permits must be purchased in order to park in campus lots. For vehicle registration and parking permit fee information, visit Transportation Services.

North Carolina Central University offers advisory services to international students. All international students must obtain admission clearance through this office. For information about the services offered, contact International Affairs.

North Carolina Central University is approved to enroll veterans, participants, military, and other eligible persons in its programs of education under the provisions of Titles 38 and 10 of the United States Code. As members of the larger University community, law students may take advantage of the many educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities offered by North Carolina Central University for all its students.
