North Carolina Central University will transition to Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy effective through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The university is closely monitoring conditions on and around campus, as well as potential impacts from Duke Energy and other service providers. If necessary, Condition 2 may be extended.

The Pro Bono Clinic focuses on the promotion and development of professional legal values and the delivery of free legal services to underserved persons, communities, and organizations.

The Pro Bono Pledge

As Legal Eagles, we want to foster an environment of community service in our profession by providing access to justice to the underserved.

We invite and encourage all law students to pledge to complete at least one pro bono project/activity each year of law school. By completing this pledge, you commit to participate in legal volunteer services during your enrollment at North Carolina Central University School of Law.

What Counts as Pro Bono?

Law student pro bono service is defined as:

Providing law-related services with no compensation or expectation of compensation and with no receipt of academic credit to:

  • persons of limited means or
  • charitable, religious, civic, community, governmental and educational organizations in matters that are designed primarily to address the needs of persons of limited means
  • individuals, groups, or organizations seeking to secure or protect civil rights, civil liberties or public rights, or charitable, religious, civic, community, governmental and educational organizations in matters in furtherance of their organizational purposes

Pro Bono Service Does Not Include:

  • non-legal volunteer work (e.g., community service)
  • legal service for which any compensation or academic credit is received (this includes law school clinics and externships).

Students are encouraged to render at least fifty (50) hours of pro bono service during their law student career.
