Message from the Chair
Greetings Faculty Colleagues,
It is a distinct honor to serve as chair of the North Carolina Central University Faculty Senate for the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 academic years. My primary focus during this term is to be a strong advocate for our faculty. However, effective advocacy requires full engagement and open communication from all of us. Together, we can ensure that every concern is addressed, and our collective voice is heard.
This year marks the beginning of a bold new vision for our university as we welcome Chancellor Dr. Karrie G. Dixon. However, realizing this vision requires a strong partnership between faculty and administration, working together to achieve meaningful outcomes. The Faculty Senate stands as a unified voice for all faculty and plays a critical role in shaping policy, advancing institutional infrastructure, enhancing student engagement and scholarship, supporting university projects, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
The Faculty Senate is fully committed to collaborating with every college, school, division, and unit of North Carolina Central University to cultivate an environment of shared governance and transparency as we pursue our collective missions and goals. We firmly embrace the principles of shared governance and transparency, defined as a system of inclusive and cooperative decision-making grounded in partnership, equity, accountability, and ownership. With this in mind, I envision both faculty and administration embodying these principles for the greater good of the university.
Thank you for the privilege of serving. I am committed to representing you with excellence, where your voice is essential. Please feel free to contact me or anyone on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee so that we can better understand and support your needs.
Sincerely.
Lorna E. Grant, Ph.D., M.S.W.
Chair of the NCCU Faculty Senate
