Undi N Hoffler
Dr. Undi Hoffler is an expert in pharmacology and environmental toxicology, with over 19 years of research experience focusing on metabolism and biomarkers of exposure. She conducted her research at the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration/National Center for Toxicological Research. Currently, Dr. Hoffler serves as the director for the Office of Research Compliance and Technology Transfer (ORCTT) at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), where she also contributes as a health equity researcher.
Dr. Hoffler's expertise extends to supporting the creation of University-IP-based startups and mentoring students in social entrepreneurial ventures. She has served as principal investigator on multiple Technology Enhancement Grants funded by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, facilitating studies that enhance the licensing potential of innovative technologies. Additionally, her office plays a crucial role in protecting faculty, staff, and students who report research noncompliance.
Her extensive experience and knowledge in these areas have positioned Dr. Hoffler as the unit leader of the Research Capacity Core and co-lead of the Compliance and Innovation Unit within the Research Infrastructure Core of NCCU’s RCMI grant funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her research interests have expanded to include community-engaged and community-led research. She has co-led the NCCU-Duke Partnership Community-Engagement Core, part of the Duke University School of Medicine Clinical and Translational Science Award, and is a co-lead on the Health and Public Safety Workforce Resiliency Training Program funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA).
Dr. Hoffler also serves as the university lead for the State of North Carolina in REACT4EJ, the EPA Region 4 Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center, where she collaborates with environmental justice-focused community-based organizations. In this role, she provides technical assistance for capacity building and facilitates access to experts to address environmental concerns and clean energy needs.
In addition to her roles at NCCU, Dr. Hoffler is the lead for the Duke-NCCU Bridge Office, where she facilitates connections between trainees and faculty mentors across both institutions, promotes inter-campus internships, and enhances access to research resources and systems. Dr. Hoffler's dedication to fostering research excellence and promoting equity in scientific endeavors underscores her significant contributions to the field and to NCCU’s mission.
