Talbert M Myers
Maurice Myers was born in Durham, NC, and raised in Mt. Gilead, NC. His parents are Dr. Talbert Myers and Rev. Gail I. Myers. He is the father of a wonderful, vibrant, and loving 3-year-old boy, Ephraim Kadesh Myers. He resides in the Cleveland Community area of Johnston County, NC.
Myers has a passion for truth and music. He has been the minister of music at Showers of Blessing since its birth in 2008. He assisted his mother in the same capacity from 2004 to 2008 at both Longview United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC, and at Lakewood United Methodist Church in Durham. Myers is a vocalist, pianist and drummer and is currently working to add guitarist to his resume. Many of the songs offered in the Worship Celebrations at Showers of Blessing are written and arranged by him.
Myers received his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies in 2014 and his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies with a concentration in Composition and Arranging in 2016, both from North Carolina Central University (NCCU). However, he has been singing, playing and writing music long before his matriculation at the university. Music has always been a part of his family, from family singing at the foot of his parents' bed, to singing in both the youth and adult choirs in his church at the same time, to having his grandmother be the church pianist. He was involved in the school chorus in middle school under the direction of Manya Dunn. From 1996 to 1998, he was a member of the Mars Hill College Choir under the direction of Dr. Joel Reed while also a member of the Harambee Gospel Choir.
While attending NCCU, Maurice was a member of the North Carolina Central University Touring Choir under the direction of the late Richard Banks. Later, Myers became a member of the award-winning North Carolina Central University Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the elite vocal jazz group Resolution, both under the direction of world-renowned jazz vocalist Lenora Zenzalai Helm (Hammonds). He has performed internationally and has performed with other world-renowned musicians such as Branford Marsalis, Joey Calderazo, Stefon Harris and Nnenna Freelon, to name a few. Myers now serves as a full-time member of the jazz faculty in the music department at NCCU, where he teaches a variety of courses, including Jazz Arranging, Technology in Music, Jazz Vocal Combo, and Applied Voice, along with writing occasional vocal arrangements for the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
Ever since 2001, Myers has known that music is his calling. Since that evening, it has been a journey to turn that vision into a reality. Myers now produces and arranges his own music under the stage name Moe Diggs. He has also written and arranged for the group Sold Out on their debut recording and 2020 release "Sold Out Live! An Evening of Praise and Worship" (available on all digital platforms). He released his debut beat tape "Trust the Process" in 2023, followed by the release of five singles ("Brian’s Song," "Broken Pt. 2," "Dream Chaser," "Things Never Will Be the Same," and "Turn Your Eyes") from an upcoming debut solo project entitled "The Sequel," set for release late 2024. The sole purpose of Myers' music is to ministry.
