Sharon J Oliver
Dr. Sharon Oliver has a long and distinguished reputation for working effectively in numerous leadership roles at North Carolina Central University.
Dr. Sharon Oliver was named interim associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management, effective June 1, 2021. In this position, Dr. Oliver oversees the Division of Enrollment Management while executing key enrollment strategic initiatives as well as student aid and scholarship dissemination. She also supports critical enrollment units such as Undergraduate Admissions, Transfer Services, University Scholars, the Office of the Registrar and the One-Stop Eagle Service Center.
Dr. Oliver has served in several roles since joining North Carolina Central University in 1996 as the assistant vice chancellor for Scholarships and Student Aid. These roles include associate vice chancellor for Enrollment Management and director of Scholarships and Student Aid, a role she held from 2009 to 2012. During the last 25 years, Dr. Oliver has acquired comprehensive experience in scholarships and student aid, which includes administering over $150 million in student financial assistance through federal, state and private funds. Her experience also includes developing and coordinating enrollment as well as strategies for successful student recruitment and retention. Experience in these two positions has allowed her to address student enrollment and oversee student financial awards, an important factor in student success that Dr. Oliver understands well.
During her tenure at NCCU, Dr. Oliver has been influential in hiring a default manager who has been instrumental in maintaining a student loan default rate below 10%. She also established the Eagle Service Center, a one-stop-shop center that has significantly enhanced the customer service experience.
Before joining the NCCU family, Dr. Oliver had experience in higher education financial aid administration. A seasoned financial aid professional, she worked at Shaw University, where she held many administrative roles, including chief accountant and bursar and director of Financial Aid.
As a servant leader, Dr. Oliver remains actively engaged in financial aid associations as a presenter at national, regional and state conferences to stay current, connected and involved. Dr. Oliver has also served as president for the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (SASFAA) and the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. In 2021, she served as a presenter for the Department of Education Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) “Birds of a Feather.” Currently, she serves as representative-at-large on the board of directors for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).
Dr. Oliver’s accomplishments include receiving the Eleanor S. Morris Distinguished Service Award, the highest award for the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators at the state level. She also won the Distinguished Service Award from the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators at the regional level.
Dr. Oliver received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from South Carolina State University and a Master of Business Administration from Webster University. She also earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Wingate University.
