Shelly Bibb DeAdder

Shelly Bibb DeAdder is an associate professor of Legal Writing at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2002, Professor DeAdder received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She then moved to Alexandria, Virginia, and worked as a paralegal in Washington, D.C. until 2005, when she returned to North Carolina to attend law school. Professor DeAdder graduated cum laude from NCCU School of Law in 2008. While in law school, she was on the Moot Court Board, served as 2L class secretary, participated in the Civil Litigation Clinic, and was the Criminal Law tutor for Professor Fred Williams as a 2L and 3L.

After law school, Professor DeAdder worked as a law clerk for Judge Robert C. Hunter at the North Carolina Court of Appeals from August 2008 to May 2012. From May 2012 to August 2014, she was employed by the North Carolina General Assembly in the nonpartisan Research Division (now known as the Legislative Analysis Division). Prior to becoming a full-time professor, she was an adjunct in the NCCU School of Law Legal Writing Program for two years.

Professor DeAdder is the faculty advisor for the NCCU Moot Court Board and coaches the ABA Client Counseling Competition teams. She is a community volunteer at StepUp Ministry and regularly participates in pro bono will and advanced directive clinics. She is also a member of the North Carolina Appellate Defender Roster, handling appeals before the appellate courts of North Carolina.

Professor DeAdder lives in Durham with her husband, Chris; daughter, Maryann; and their rescue dog, Nora. She enjoys reading, writing, Pilates, and spending quality time with friends and family.
