Seronda A Robinson
Dr. Seronda A. Robinson is an accomplished epidemiologist and esteemed professor in the Department of Public Health Education at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). With over 18 years of dedicated service at NCCU, her passion for addressing health disparities rooted in the social determinants of health is evident.
Her academic journey is marked by excellence, having earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from Clark Atlanta University and a doctorate in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Gillings School of Global Public Health.
Dr. Robinson's commitment to public health extends far beyond academia. She has a wealth of experience conducting community-based research, collaborating with community advisory boards and organizations, and evaluating the principles of community-based participatory research. Notable roles include serving as a co-investigator and the evaluation coordinator for a community-based participatory research study that effectively used barbershops as a platform to share health information and reduce prostate cancer incidence among African-American men.
In addition to her research and community engagement roles, Dr. Robinson holds key positions in various initiatives, enhancing her contribution to public health:
- Core lead for Research Centers in Minority Institutions Community Engagement Core (RCMI CEC).
- Co-director of Health Equity, Environment and Population Health (HOPE) Program.
- Member of African American COVID Taskforce - Plus (AACT+).
- Principal investigator (PI) for the NC Diversity Inclusion Pathway Program (NC DIPP) in collaboration with UNC Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).
Dr. Robinson's collaborations have spanned diverse projects, including assessing the impact of COVID-19 on underserved populations, increasing minority participation in STEM fields, and investigating COVID-19's impact on the Black community through a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) grant. Her contributions to a Komen grant aimed at training graduate students to translate bench science to the community demonstrate her versatile expertise.
Dr. Robinson's impressive career encompasses a rich tapestry of research, community engagement, leadership and significant roles in various public health initiatives. Her work is dedicated to addressing health disparities and promoting community well-being.
