Robert T Crouch
Dr. Robert Crouch retired in 2021 as the director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with the Office for Institutional Equity at Duke University. Dr. Crouch holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Fayetteville State University and a Master of Public Administration degree from North Carolina Central University, with a minor in Criminal Justice and a doctorate in Education from Gardner-Webb University. He has also studied in the area of public policy at North Carolina State University. His experience in diversity and inclusion, training, coaching, and human resources, spans over 30 years.
As director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Duke University, he worked across the Duke community providing educational sessions, coaching, mentoring and workshops related to diversity and inclusion. His work at Duke University also included working with faculty, physicians, managers, and staff in a consultative capacity that provided guidance and assistance in promoting and maintaining more inclusive, equitable, and respectful work environments.
Prior to his employment at Duke, Dr. Crouch worked for more than 16 years training staff, administrators, and managers and writing curriculum through the staff development office at the North Carolina Department of Correction, which is currently under the Department of Public Safety. His work included training at the North Carolina Justice Academy and at various locations around the State, which included prisons, community colleges, and probation/parole.
Dr. Crouch currently serves as an adjunct instructor in the Criminal Justice Department at North Carolina Central University and has served in this capacity for approximately 20 years. He also taught as an adjunct instructor at Mt. Olive University in Criminal Justice and Human Capital Management.
While working as an adjunct instructor in the Criminal Justice department at North Carolina Central University, Dr. Crouch served as one of the conveners of the North Carolina Reentry Action Project (NCREAP). The group’s focus was in the areas of policy, research, employment, housing, and life skills for individuals reentering society.
His board affiliations include serving currently as a member of the Durham YMCA Board and past member of the Undergraduate Judicial Board at Duke University and the North Carolina Employee Relations Board. Dr. Crouch was a recipient of the Alex Almay Award from the North Carolina Correctional Association and the Outstanding Service and Leadership Award from the Center for the Advancement of Justice and Policy, North Carolina Central University.
