LaTrice Washington
Dr. La Trice Washington is an associate professor at North Carolina Central University. She joined the faculty in the fall of 2021. Prior to joining the Political Science department at NCCU, Dr. Washington was a tenured associate professor of Political Science at Otterbein University for 21 years. Her durable connectivity to the commonalities of the electoral process allows her to deliver concise political analysis that incites thought and allows the broadcast viewer to connect with the political process with understanding.
Dr. Washington teaches Research Methods, Beauty, Gender, and Patriarchy, American Government, American Legislative Process, State and Local Government, Behavioral Research Methods, Campaigns and Elections and experimental courses. She received her Ph.D. from Howard University in 2002 and focused on the American legislative and electoral process. She is also the author of "The Veteran’s Millennium Health Care Act of 1999," published in 2003.
Moreover, Dr. Washington has been interviewed by journalists on local news affiliates WCMH NBC4, WSYX ABC6, WBNS-TV10, Al Jazeera, CBS (DC Affiliate) and Voice of America, among others. She has also appeared on MSNBC with Chris Jansing and been invited to be a guest on “All Sides” with Ann Fisher” (WOSU/NPR) and “Face the State” with host Scott Light. Professor Washington has been interviewed and quoted by print media including the New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor, the Associated Press, WCMH NBC4, WSYX ABC6 and WBNS-TV10. Dr. Washington worked on Capital Hill as a legislative assistant to a member of Congress from 1993–1998. She was responsible for researching and writing speeches on veteran’s issues, health care, education, medicare, constituent correspondence, Social Security and aging issues.

Research and Professional Work
Dr. Washington’s research focus has been on policy formulation and the American legislative process and ethics and political scandals in the United States. She has conducted research on beauty, gender and patriarchy as it relates to cultural practices in the U.S., Japan, China and Africa. She is currently conducting research on food insecurity in North Carolina. This research provides an opportunity for several students in the department to engage in research with Dr. Washington and faculty at North Carolina State University. The research is funded by a grant.
