Karen Webb
Dr. Karen Webb, Ph.D., RN, serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Nursing at North Carolina Central University. Her research focuses on addressing health disparities, promoting health equity, and enhancing population health through community-based preventive measures and interventions aimed at combating chronic diseases. Dr. Webb's unique approach incorporates insights from nursing, public health, kinesiology, social sciences and biological sciences to develop interventions that foster positive health behavior changes within vulnerable populations. She employs mixed methods research methodologies to comprehensively examine the intricate web of community factors impacting health.
Currently, Dr. Webb holds the role of co-principal investigator for a National Institutes of Health-funded grant valued at 1.5 million dollars, spanning four years. This project, known as BeFAB-HBCU, seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of an evidence-based mHealth approach in enhancing health literacy related to healthy living, reducing weight and increasing physical activity among students attending North Carolina Central University. In addition, she actively collaborates on multiple research studies alongside fellow faculty members from the College of Health and Science and the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.
Dr. Webb's extensive clinical experience in cardiac and critical care has profoundly influenced her teaching philosophy. She firmly believes in the value of innovative, inclusive and collaborative educational practices that harness the strengths of higher education learners. Her deep commitment to the nursing profession is evident in her dedication to nurturing the next generation of nurses and nurse leaders. Dr. Webb currently teaches and mentors students within both the traditional and accelerated nursing programs at North Carolina Central University.
