Grace Hao
Dr. Grace Hao, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is the chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at North Carolina Central University since 2019. She joined NCCU in 2002 and served previously as the program coordinator for the Communication Disorders program and chair of the Department of Allied Professions.
Dr. Hao has developed and taught a range of essential courses for medical speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and has enriched the CSD curriculum with specialized topics, including Pediatric Feeding Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Disorders, Voice and Communication Services for Transgender and Non-binary Individuals, and Global Issues in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Her clinical expertise extends across the lifespan, with a focus on gender-affirming voice services and bilingual Chinese-English speech and language services.
Dr. Hao is deeply committed to enhancing global student learning opportunities. She founded the Chinese International Speech-Language and Hearing Association and served as its president from 2014 to 2019. Her previous roles include serving as a committee member on the International Issues Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and as a member and chair of the ASHA Academic Affairs Board. Currently, she is a member of the nominating committee and a site visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
Dedicated to fostering collaborative interprofessional education and practice, Dr. Hao has contributed to the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) interprofessional education (IPE)/interprofessional practice (IPP) committee. She is also a member of the National Academy of Professionals (NAP) and currently serves on the Executive Council of the NAP SLP Academy.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field, Dr. Hao was honored as a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2024, one of the highest accolades bestowed by ASHA.
