Dorothy D. Nachman is a lifelong North Carolinian who graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990 and North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law in 1996, summa cum laude.
After graduating law school, Professor Nachman entered a small private practice in Durham, N.C., dedicated to issues of estate planning, wills, trusts, and probate law. In 2004, passed the Estate Planning and Probate Law Specialty Exam administered by the North Carolina State Bar, thus earning her the designation of specialist in the field.
Professor Nachman joined the faculty at NCCU School of Law in 2002 and primarily teaches Property I and II, Wills and Trusts, Estate and Gift Taxation, Elder Law, North Carolina Probate Administration and Client Counseling. Professor Nachman has also served as faculty coach for the NCCU’s Client Counseling Competition team and from 2006 to 2023 served on the American Bar Association’s Client Counseling Subcommittee. Professor Nachman has taught in the Summer Start Initiative to support student matriculation and success, as well as in the Performance-Based Admissions Program, a program to support access to legal education.
