Brian N Gonzales
Professor Brian Gonzales is an artist and educator specializing in drawing and printmaking. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Herron School of Art and Design, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from East Carolina University, both with concentrations in printmaking. In the fall of 2023, Professor Gonzales joined the NCCU Department of Art and Design as an Assistant Professor, after serving as a Lecturer in the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, where he had been teaching since 2016. His academic career also includes a position as an Instructor of Record at his alma mater, Herron School of Art and Design, where he taught printmaking courses from 2011 to 2012.
Professor Gonzales is known for his extensive research and artistic practice in printmaking. He was a Research Fellow at Supergraphic, a print lab based in Durham, North Carolina, from 2013 to 2016. Over the years, Professor Gonzales has exhibited his work extensively in prestigious galleries and institutions across the globe. His exhibitions include solo and group shows in venues such as Aisha Alabbar and Ayyam Galleries in Dubai, the International Print Center in New York, Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah, and the Embassy of Mexico in Abu Dhabi.
He is not only a practicing artist but also a sought-after lecturer and workshop instructor. He has conducted numerous artist talks and workshops at institutions including Sharjah Art Foundation, American University in Dubai, and the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. His work has also been published and featured in media outlets such as Durham Magazine, Hadara Magazine, Sharjah TV, NPR’s The State of Things, and the Washington Post. His contributions to the field of printmaking are widely recognized, and his prints are held in prestigious collections such as the Zuckerman Museum of Art, Southern Graphics Council International Prints Collection, and the City of Raleigh Municipal Art Collection.
