Allison Farmer, a higher education professional, is dedicated to creating inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments. As the assistant director for Student Accessibility Services at North Carolina Central University, she facilitates purposeful interactions with students and provides training for faculty and staff using an intersectional framework.
With nearly a decade of experience, Allison collaborates with campus stakeholders to address obstacles to student success, with a focus on accessibility, academic advising, first-year experience, learning support, and course design based on universal design learning principles. She also serves as a guest lecturer at the Morehouse School of Medicine and has taught various courses at the post-secondary and K-12 levels.
In presentations and workshops, Allison shares her expertise on crucial topics such as classroom and digital accessibility, holistic advising, student access and success, and connecting with diverse learners.
She is an active member of professional organizations, including the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), its state-level affiliate NC AHEAD, the North Carolina Higher Education Digital Accessibility Collaborative, and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).
Allison earned her bachelor's degree with a double major in communication studies and dramatic art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She continued her education with a master's degree in higher education, with a concentration in community college and university leadership, and obtained a graduate teaching certificate in college and university teaching from Appalachian State University.
