North Carolina Central University will transition to Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy effective through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The university is closely monitoring conditions on and around campus, as well as potential impacts from Duke Energy and other service providers. If necessary, Condition 2 may be extended.

Spring Break Closing

Residence halls will close on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 12 p.m. (noon) and begin to reopen on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 12 p.m. (noon).  Students should follow the steps below to ensure their room is properly prepared for spring break.

Closing Checklist

Things to Do Before Leaving for Spring Break:

  • Take out all trash to the trash dumpster.
  • Do not unplug the University-provided full-size refrigerator in the apartment/suite.
  • Thermostats:
    • Annie Day Sheppard, Ruffin, Chidley North, New Residence II, and Richmond: Thermostats should be set at 65 degrees.
    • Eagle Landing, George Street Suites, Lawson Street Suites, and Alston Avenue Apartments: Thermostats should be set on auto, heat, at 65 degrees.
  • If the room is located on a ground floor, please make sure the blinds are lowered and closed. All other floors should have the blinds lowered and opened.
  • Remove all window coverings (draperies).
  • Unplug all personal electronics/devices (students may leave personal refrigerators plugged in during spring break).
  • Ensure all personal belongings are removed from the floor.
  • Power off all lights (including stovetop, hallway, bathroom, etc.).
  • Lock all windows.
  • Lock all doors (if applicable).

Note: The University assumes no responsibility or liability for the personal property of students. This includes damage due to fire, water, theft, etc. Students desiring protection from incidental damages must make their own arrangements for insurance. For more information on renter's insurance, go to the Residential Life website. 

Staff will be entering each room (in all residence halls) to verify all rooms are prepared for spring break. 

Need Accommodations During Spring Break?
