Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR) Frequently Asked Questions

Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR) is the orientation event designed to help first-year and transfer students transition to life at NCCU. During orientation, you will engage with various campus departments, student leaders, learn academic expectations, register for your semester courses and be immersed in NCCU traditions and campus culture.

Yes. Orientation is mandatory for all first-year and transfer students. Second-degree-seeking students who did not receive their first degree from NCCU are also required to attend.

Yes: The cost to attend orientation for first-year and transfer students is $250. This fee is non-refundable and covers on-campus lodging (only for the overnight experience), meals, giveaways and other administrative expenses. 

It is not mandatory for parents and/or guests to attend, however, it is highly encouraged. The cost for attendance for parents and/or guests is $55. There is a two-person maximum per student that may attend. The fee is also non-refundable and covers, meals giveaways and administrative expenses during activities provided during the student’s move-in. Lodging is not provided for parents and/or guests.
