Welcome to North Carolina Central University’s Department of Nutrition Sciences! Our faculty members strive to be accessible and student-focused and to engage you in the study of nutrition. Nutrition is a growing field with many different career directions and opportunities. Our program allows students to explore different interests from pediatrics, sports nutrition, weight management, community health, food service, research and more. Our faculty have expertise in many different areas of nutrition and share their passion with our students. We are working hard to increase the diversity of practitioners entering the field of nutrition and dietetics as well as to train our students to meet the needs of the diverse populations in North Carolina and across the country and the world.
Nutrition is the cornerstone of health. From growing up healthy to preventing obesity and chronic diseases, understanding the science of nutrition and translating this information to the patient or community can make a difference in a person’s health and quality of life. With increasing recognition of the impact of diet on disease, disease prevention, optimal health and performance, there is a growing demand for dietitians and students trained in the field. Our students are in high demand and have a 100% job placement rate. Many of our graduates obtain employment in hospitals/other healthcare institutions, health education, public health, food service, the food industry, worksite wellness, health coaching, nutrition writing, nutrition project management, research or government agencies. In addition, training in nutrition provides a foundation that can prepare students for other health professions such as medicine, dentistry or other advanced degrees.
The Department of Nutrition Sciences is here to get you started with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics or advance your education with a master’s degree in nutritional sciences or training to become a registered dietitian. Our online programs are flexible and affordable with caring and experienced faculty and staff. We are excited to welcome you to our nutrition family!
