Welcome to the Department of Nursing, Nursing Student Services. We provide academic advising for prospective, pre-nursing and nursing students. We are an integral part of the Department of Nursing and serve as the first point of contact for the department. We are a student-centered division that serves as the link for communication between students, faculty and the administration. Our goal is to ensure student success throughout program progression.

Students and Professional Organizations
Pi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau (International Nursing Honor Society)
On April 9, 2000, North Carolina Central University Department of Nursing chartered the Pi Sigma chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). This Nursing Honor Society promotes scholarship, strong leadership, love, courage and honor. Students and community persons who meet the criteria are eligible for membership. The chapter will support activities that encourage professional growth and exemplify the best of professional nursing.
New members are inducted into the chapter each year. Nursing students and nurses from the community who meet the criteria are invited for membership in STTI. Sigma Theta Tau, founded in 1922, is the international honor society of nursing. Election to the membership constitutes one of the higher honors that may come to the professional nurse. Eligibility for student membership is determined by scholastic advancement, evidence of professional leadership and potential and advancement in the practice of nursing. Active members invite both undergraduate seniors and graduate students to join the society using guidelines recommended by the national organization (https://www.nursingsociety.org/).
Student Nurses Association
The Student Nurses Association is an organization of student nurses that, through membership and active participation, is designed to promote the professional development and leadership capabilities of nursing students nationwide.
All students accepted into the upper-division nursing program at the NCCU Department of Nursing are expected to become members and active participants in the NCCU Student Nurses Association (SNA), the North Carolina Association of Nursing Students (NCANS) and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). Pre-nursing majors are also encouraged to become members and be active participants in these organizations. For additional information, please refer to https://www.nsna.org.
In addition to professional development, there are many benefits to belonging to these organizations. As a member, students are also eligible and encouraged to run for local, state and national offices. Since 1996, NCCU has been an official constituent of the NSNA. An annual membership fee gives one membership in the NCCU SNA, NCANS and NSNA for 12 calendar months. Fees are paid at the beginning of the fall semester of each year.
Pre-Nursing Club
The purpose of Pre-Nursing Club at North Carolina Central University is to provide a way for declared pre-nursing students to learn more about the field of nursing, connect with similar goal-oriented students, receive resources to help them succeed academically and access leadership opportunities and opportunities to participate in health-based community service projects.
