Admission Requirements

Academic Progression

A grade of "C" is the minimum passing grade for all nursing courses. If a student receives an "I," "D," or "F" in a nursing course, the student cannot progress to the next sequence of courses without repeating the course (or completing requirements if "I" is received). Students who fail two courses in the nursing program (NURS prefix) will be dismissed from the NCCU nursing program. The Department of Nursing grading scale is as follows:

  • 93–100   =       A
  • 85–92     =        B
  • 77–84    =        C
  • 69–76    =        D
  • 68 and below =  F

Technology Requirements

Students in the B.S.N. program are to adhere to and review the tech tips and requirements listed in the Tech Checklist. Please review the requirements for both computers and mobile devices for the nursing program.

 Minimum Computer Equipment and Software

  1. A computer (no more than 3 years old if possible) will be needed for at least some course elements. Tablets work for some tasks, but not all.
  2. 1GB of RAM
  3. 2 GHz processor
  4. A reliable internet connection: 512 kbps minimum, but a high-speed connection is recommended.
  5. Adobe Reader/Acrobat or another PDF reader application
  6. Javascript must be enabled to run Canvas
  7. Word Processor: Microsoft Word 2003 or newer recommended
  8. Sound card and speakers
  9. Webcam

Nursing Student Learning Outcome

At the end of their program, students should be able to do the following:

  1. Synthesize theoretical and empirical knowledge from the liberal arts and nursing sciences to promote accurate decision making
  2. Utilize the nursing process within the context of therapeutic interventions to promote adaptation to changing client environments
  3. Integrate principles of culturally competent care for individuals, groups and communities within diverse populations
  4. Integrate leadership and communication skills into the management of patient care
  5. Collaborate in inter-professional health teams to improve health care delivery to diverse population groups
  6. Integrate the research process and its findings to implement evidence-based practice
