The Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBSD) maintains affiliations, partnerships, collaborations and cross-disciplinary programming with several institutions and academic units on campus, as well as across the state and the country. They include the following:
- The Boston University Medical School Early Admission Program: a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that facilitates entry of our students to medical studies at Boston University School of Medicine
- A memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the NC Museum of Natural Sciences allows the department to have a faculty member with a joint appointment in the department and the museum
- The UNC-CH Postdoctoral Seeding Postdoctoral Innovators in Research and Education (SPIRE) Program with UNC-CH, which brings 1–2 postdoctoral fellows to teach in the department at no cost to NCCU
- A partnership with the Nursing Department, which created the advanced practice clinician (APC)-approved Accelerated B.S. in Nursing Track in two BBSD degree programs
- Collaborations with Chemistry and Biochemistry, which resulted in cross-listing and team-teaching of the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral Biochemistry courses in both departments
- Research collaborations between BBSD faculty and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Research collaborations between BBSD faculty and the National Institutes of Health National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH-NIEHS).
- BBSD faculty have joint research appointments in the JLC-BBRI.
- BBSD faculty are key members of the Integrated Biosciences Ph.D. program.
- BBSD faculty have key roles in the NCI U54 Cooperative Agreement grant with UNC Lineberger Cancer Center.
- BBSD faculty have key roles in the NIAAA U54 Cooperative Agreement grant with UNC Bowles Alcohol Center.
- BBSD faculty have key roles in the NIH R25 grant application in neuroscience funded as a collaborative effort with Duke University.
- A National Science Foundation (NSF) grant application funded as a collaborative effort between NCCU (BBSD and Chemistry faculty) and NC State University
- A BBSD faculty member is a participant in the recently re-funded NSF DREAM STEM program.
- Several BBSD faculty hold adjunct faculty positions at Duke University and UNC-CH and collaborate with faculty at those universities.
- BBSD faculty conduct science education research project collaborations with universities in North Carolina and other states.
- The Summer Research Scholars Program with Duke University: NCCU students conduct research internships at Duke; students from Duke conduct research internships at NCCU.
