NCCU Resolution is a subset group of NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble, founded by members meeting through NCCU's Jazz Studies program. The group began in 2010 and continues to perform, comprising alums of both NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble, NCCU Jazz Studies and NCCU Department of Music students by Music Industry and Vocal Performance.
The founding group members came to a consensus on the name from a recording of tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, inspired by his seminal recording, "A Love Supreme." On that recording, "Resolution" is one of four movements of the through-composed suite. Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" was recognized as a deeply spiritual recording, with religious subtext. The group members have stayed true to that initial impetus to sing together like a family, with strong spiritual bonds.
