AudioNet: Campus Access Radio was established on the campus of North Carolina Central University in 1999 by Truitt O'Neal and was established to be an outlet that educates and entertains NCCU student volunteers and listeners through music, news, public affairs, and sports. The vision for AudioNet was provide an alternative to other media outlets in the community through programming that is educational, cultural, diverse, and unique. AudioNet also serves as a training ground for NCCU students interested in broadcasting careers, therefore making AudioNet: Channel 9 the student voice of North Carolina Central University.
AudioNet: Channel 9 is the student voice and information station for students on the campus of NCCU and is a training facility designed to give students on the field of broadcasting once-in-a-lifetime chances to meet and work with some of today's most recognizable artists in the entertainment industry. AudioNet is the alternative to other media outlets in the community through programming that is educational, cultural diverse, and unique, serving the university with music (R&B and hip hop genres), news, public affairs, and sports of local and national interest. AudioNet: channel 9 is located in the Farris Newton Communications Building on the campus of North Carolina Central University.
AudioNet is staffed by students majoring in Broadcasting, Music Industry Studies, and a variety of other majors. AudioNet students are volunteers, work-study students, and community service students at NCCU. Students at AudioNet are trained to be announcers, news anchors, production directors, and music directors, and to hold other positions created to provide a professional broadcast training foundation while in college. Advanced students are promoted to positions within NCCU's Jazz station, WNCU 90.7, where they have the opportunity to learn how a public radio station in a medium market competes for market share and funding.
AudioNet provides listeners with a variety of music, news, and information designed to entertain as well as inform. AudioNet's primary format is a mixture of hip hop and R&B. AudioNet also provides listeners with a daily gospel show, as well as a Quiet Storm show designed to appeal to the vast majority of students enrolled at NCCU. AudioNet can also be viewed and listened to on Channel 9 in the dorms, classrooms, and office buildings on the campus of NCCU.
