Personal Statement
The School of Law is particularly interested in applicants who, by their background and experience, will add to the intellectual climate and diversity of the student body. The personal statement is required and provides the reviewer with the best opportunity to evaluate who applicants are beyond their undergraduate GPA and LSAT score(s).
The content of the personal statement should
- address applicants’ reason(s) for pursuing a legal education
- detail pertinent characteristics in applicants’ backgrounds that qualify them to be candidates for law school
- provide context on what applicants want to do with a law degree
- provide reason(s) applicants are interested in North Carolina Central University School of Law
Further, the content of the statement must be in applicants’ own words and thoughts and must highlight unique characteristics that may include the following:
- educational experiences
- occupational experiences
- economic disadvantages
- significant or extracurricular activities
- talents and special interests
- involvement in community affairs or public service
- course of study
- grade trends
- post-undergraduate studies
- significant work experience
- other personal experiences that have influenced applicants’ lives
The personal statement must be electronically attached to the School of Law’s Online Application for admission. The personal statement must be no more than two (2) pages, typed and double-spaced (Times New Roman and 12-pt font size), and it must be a concise and well-drafted document.
