Program Overview
The Elementary Education BA program offers a rigorous program of study that integrates content knowledge, skills, and pedagogy. The Elementary Education degree prepares candidates for teaching in public elementary schools and leads to an initial K–6 teaching license in the state of North Carolina.
Candidates pursuing an initial license are required to complete a concentration in one of the following areas: art, biology, English as a Second Language (ESL), English literature, English writing, history, literacy, mathematics (general), French, Spanish, or social science.
A second degree option is also available for candidates who already hold a BA in a different field but would like to pursue a teaching license. Candidates pursuing a second degree in Elementary Education are not required to complete an academic concentration.
