Overview
The Evening Program at NCCU School of Law is tailored for ambitious individuals who are committed to earning a law degree while working full-time. This program attracts students from diverse professional fields—academia, healthcare, scientific research, law enforcement, government, and more—each bringing a unique perspective to the classroom. Admission to the Evening Program reflects a serious, long-term commitment to balancing work, study, and personal responsibilities in pursuit of a legal career.
This four-year program runs year-round, offering an enriching curriculum that meets Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. To ensure a comprehensive legal education, 55 of the 88 credit hours required for graduation are core courses, all provided on a regular rotational schedule. Most of the substantive courses follow an every-other-year rotation, so students should plan for continuous attendance through eight semesters and six summer sessions to stay on track for timely graduation.
Required courses are typically offered during the fall and spring semesters, while summer sessions focus on electives, allowing students to explore specialized areas of interest. Additionally, approximately nine elective credit hours are offered during the regular academic year. Evening Program students are expected to attend both summer sessions each year to fulfill the necessary credit requirements.
Traditional first-year courses are thoughtfully staggered across the first two years of the Evening Program. This structure allows students to take classes with peers at various stages in their legal education, fostering a collaborative learning environment without impacting academic performance, as demonstrated by grade reviews over time. Despite the overlap, class sizes remain manageable, averaging around 80 students or fewer.
